Flower Essences for Social Anxiety

Flower essences are a vibrational therapy for the emotions. Flower essences were discovered by Dr Edward Bach in the 1930s. He was a homeopath and looked to nature to find healing. He had realised that the root cause of many physical illnesses was in the mental and emotional sphere. He found the remedies for this in the flowers and trees. To make flower essences, the flowers are floated in water and placed in the sunlight. The resulting water is said to be charged with the essence of the flower. This water is bottled and preserved. Each flower has its own unique properties for healing emotional problems.

Flowers for acute Social Anxiety

The most famous of all of the remedies is Bach Flower Rescue Remedy. This combination of essences is used for emergency situations like panic attacks. It contains the following essences:

  • Rock rose – for extreme terror and panic
  • Impatiens – for impatience
  • Star of Bethlehem – for shock
  • Clematis – for confusion and to bring back to the present
  • Cherry plum – for fear of losing control

Rescue Remedy is best when used before, during or after fear-provoking situations. It will relieve anxious symptoms and help you to relax.

Chronic Social Anxiety

More long-term treatment for social anxiety will take longer than a single dose! This condition took a long time to build up and may need continued treatment to resolve entirely. It can involve the use of the following essences:

Mimulus – for the type of person who is scared of known things and is shy

Aspen – for a fear of unknown things

White chestnut – for repetitive unwanted thoughts

Larch – for a fear of failure and low self-esteem

Water Violet – for those who feel separate and would rather be alone
